The Invitation – Come Up Here!

After this, I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice which I had heard addressing me like [the calling of] a war trumpet said, Come up here, and I will show you what must take place in the future.  Revelation 4:1 AMPC

Have you ever received a party invitation and felt genuinely valued and excited to attend? In high school, getting invited to “The Party” was significant. As we mature, we learn that some gatherings are best avoided. Yet, certain invitations still make us say, “I’d be honored to come.”

Someone spoke into my Life a couple of weeks ago, and they said, “There is this song that I see for you.”  I have listened to it repeatedly since this person said that to me.  It impacted me so that I want to share it with you, just the title, and we can launch from there. The title is “Come Up Here”.

The Door is open

As I listened, the song became more than music—it became an invitation. It felt personal, like arriving at a friend’s home to hear, “Come in, the door is open—Theresa, you have a key.” Jesus invited me to ascend and meet with Him. That day, I needed the invitation, despite prayer, worship, and service. God wanted me closer, higher. I found myself kneeling silently. Revelation 4:3 says, “At once I came under the [Holy] Spirit’s power, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with One seated on the throne!”

Honor the Request

Do you recall when a teacher said, “See me after class,” or when a parent or accountability partner called not as a request or optional. Sometimes these summonses want to encourage us, address vulnerabilities or forewarn coming events, as with John in our opening scripture, or they reveal affection: “I love spending time with you.” Do not ignore such requests, especially from God. He consistently exceeds what we ask or imagine.

You choose what suits you:

  • Come to me – Matthew 11:28 CEV “If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me, and I will give you rest. In ministry, we are receiving more prayer requests. For healing, finances, court cases, I want to go to college, but I have no money, relationships, housing, etc. We pray the prayer of faith, minister to the needs of the people, teach, do outreach, and do the things ministry is expected to do. And sometimes we are moving so much that we don’t rest as we should. God says, “Come Up Here.”
  • Join me here – John 14:23 AMPC – “Jesus answered, If a person [really] loves Me, he will keep My word [obey My teaching]; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home (abode, special dwelling place) with him.” There are special places we should have reserved for God, both in the natural and in the spiritual. God really wants our fellowship and communion. Father God does not want us to allow life to get in the way of these special times, or to let it be inconsistent, or to unknowingly edge God out of things. Think about that place in your home where you go to commune or that Bible passage(s), song(s) that always draws you close to Him, and join Him there.
  • Ascend here—To ascend means to arise, climb, soar, or go upward. I picture this as the place Isaiah saw in Isaiah 6, or Jacob saw in his Genesis 28 dream, exclaiming, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God and the gate of heaven!” Or Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:2, caught up to the third heaven. Just like John said: “After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven!” Ascending may be unplanned, arriving through dreams, visions, worship, or prayer.

Accept the Invitation

Jesus is offering a personal invitation to commune with Him and experience God’s presence, as described in Revelation 4:11, Psalms 16:11, 27:8, 145:18 and Jeremiah 29:13. Responding to His call, “Come Up Here,” will lead us into a deeper relationship and worship with our Creator.

If you are not saved, know the invitation extends to you, too. The door is open. Confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved. Romans 10:9-10.
