Take Your Healing!

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 2:24

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases. Psalm 103:2

Last month, we talked about its “Always a time to Believe and Receive”; this week, we want to be more specific and look at healing.  I have always had a heart for the elderly, and for some reason, they were all always around our house, and my grandfather lived around the corner.  They had a resilience about them.  This toughness, as a child, it seems they knew what to do and what to say to us kids from a standpoint of wisdom, correction, and instruction, and in most cases, if we obeyed them, we would be ok.   Most of them went to church, believed in prayer and in eating well, and had gardens, the annual almanac, the Bible, and a bowl of fruit on the table. They took and gave us some kind of castor oil, cod-liver oil…  a couple of times of the year, just because that’s what they would say if you dared to say, “Why do they give us this stuff?” This preventive maintenance was believed to be a part of a good, healthy foundation.

Sickness does come

Sickness comes to mankind because of the fall in the Garden of Eden by Adam, moving us from a perfect world to one with sickness, suffering, and death.  So, people will get sick; it was not the plan of Father God, who planned creation, nor was the need for redemption an afterthought with Him.  Let’s be clear that sickness does not come from God as He does not have it as one pastor says. But when sickness comes, it must be dealt with not just only with healthy foundation living as we discussed, but with the Word of God.  We must believe that God wants us healed!

Healing is the Children’s Bread

In the last verses of Psalm 91, the Lord says, “He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.”  God’s plan for long life for us does not include sickness, that would only be a life of duration, not a satisfied life, which means being healthy, happy, fulfilled or content.  Jeremiah 33:6NIV says, “‘Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.” Psalm 103:2-3NIV reminds us, “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.”   Read Matthew 15:26-28, it is the account of Jesus and the Syrophoenician woman.  If you are a child of God, then healing is your portion!  Believe it and receive it, and as we always say, “if I were not saved, I’d get saved,” as you are missing out on one of the many benefits of the Believer.

The Word is Alive, Activate it!

Forget the “if it be God’s will” statement. To be honest, there are people in the Kingdom of God who have been saved for a while who don’t take advantage of their kingdom benefits.   We have to know our benefits and sow/apply the corresponding Word of God.

F.F. Bosworth said in the Book “Christ the Healer” puts it this way.  “Praying for healing with the faith-destroying words, “if it be Thy will” is not planting the “seed”; it is destroying the seed. “The prayer of faith” that heals the sick is to follow (not precede) the planting of the “seed” (the Word). Faith is based on this alone. It is the Gospel, which the Holy Spirit says, “is the power of God unto salvation” in all its phases, both physical and spiritual. All the Gospel is for “every creature” and for “all nations.” The Gospel does not leave a man in uncertainty praying with an “if it be Thy will”; it tells him what God’s will is.”

So, get your Bible out, find your word for healing, sow it, and don’t dig it up.  We mention how the older people around us had gardens every year. Remember my father grabbing the seeds he had stored up and/or purchased and going to start the garden each year. I never saw him dig up the seeds to see if they had taken root. He just watered it, worked the field around it and watched it grow.  `We must believe in our hearts and minds that it is God’s will to heal us.  Take your Healing! Healing is a part of the redeeming work of Christ Jesus!

Help Someone Take their Healing

There was a song some time ago called ” Bleed the Same.” It discusses the division among people.  Well, one place in particular where I have experienced no visible division, and after a few weeks/months, I could not sense any either. The place was the Cancer Chemotherapy Center.  I was there weekly with someone who is like a little sister to me. Everyone there was fighting for the same reason: to live and not die. When we started going, people just kept to themselves; then they started speaking to each other, since most of the time the same people were on the same scheduled day. There was an unspoken agreement that they all were experiencing the same thing. The caregivers (we were allowed to sit with the patient during the treatment session) not only helped those they were with but also encouraged each other and the people receiving treatment, sometimes without saying a word. The passing out of a healing card, a quick nod or prayer as you were passing by, entering the room or exiting the room.   The Word says, “Therefore encourage and comfort one another and build up one another, just as you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Let us not miss or overlook the opportunity to help/remember those who are physically challenged or find themselves disabled.   It’s a part of what we should do as kingdom citizens. Read Matthew 25:31-46. Calls, cards, meals, rides, visits, etc. My mom gets cards from a deacon at her church often, and as I come to realize the thoughtfulness is never taken for granted, it cheers and boosts the spirit of a sick person.

God gave me one word one day when I was really having a hard time as a caregiver recently, the word was “Consider,” it means to think about carefully: pause, and to think of especially with regard to and before you take some action or say something.  Be calm, be patient, pray in the spirit and hold on to your confession for total healing. Healing came for my friend/little sister who had cancer. She rang the bell over five years ago with the healing power of Jesus our Savior and some help from her family and friends.  Healing is for all!
