The Urgency
I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. John 9:4-5
The Urgency – Important requiring swift actions
There is an urgency in the atmosphere on one side to get the gospel of the kingdom of God out to the world. This has been there since Jesus said it in Mark 16:15, “He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” Also, in 2 Timothy 4:1, “I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.”
On the other side, there is a slippery slope. The enemy is spewing perversion, violence, twisted doctrine… I recently heard and read that AI (artificial intelligence) will be able to rewrite the Bible to make it more socially acceptable. As the kids say, you better be “Woke” and not just on political and entertainment topics. Where your soul will spend eternity and how we live these days of our lives now depends on it. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 puts it in perspective “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: We have got be prepared to defend the faith.
There’s an urgency on things facing parents, too, and it has been all over the news. Some parents want to get their children up and out of the house, and that is fine; just make sure they are prepared to go! This can only be done effectively with Jesus as the Lord of your life and theirs. The Lord said of Abraham “For I have chosen him, so that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring upon Abraham what He has spoken about him.” Genesis 18:19. Parenting does not stop after our children become adults; it just takes on a different look. Nor is it limited to the parents. Some older and younger relatives/associates can help too.
There is an urgency that some are feeling on the job and at home. The Covid-19 virus changed how the world works, and post-pandemic inflation is an issue too. But God! King David said I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
We can name other matters that are urgent in our everyday lives too. All we are saying today is let’s step in, step up, and do the work God has assigned us to do while it is still day. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16💕
