The Love of the Father

And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”

2 Corinthians 6:18

The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him. Proverbs 20:7

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers, we salute you today.  Enjoy the gifts, the love you receive from your children, friends… near and far.

Now as we celebrate today, let us not forget to acknowledge the greatest father ever Our Heavenly Father. Our Father God who is so full of love for us and is the best example of a father anywhere.  He is the greatest and best protector, provider, instructor, teacher, counselor, friend, financier mentor, confidant…  He shows love in everything He does for us.  We love you daddy God!

Love is an action word and that is what fathers are all about. Especially from the man who accept and lovingly embraces the roll (whether he is the biological father or not).  The Apostle Paul talking to his sons in the gospel said it this way in 1 Corinthians 4:15 “For though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.”

Oh there are many children who have father figures in their lives.  Thank God, for the grandfather’s, uncles, neighbors, pastors, and friends… that step into a child’s life to fill the shoes of father.

Today is also Juneteenth that recognizes the end of slavery in the United States of America and marks the anniversary of June 19, 1865. Heard a story just last week about a slave who was fighting with the Confederate  Army who found himself behind Union lines and could have stayed there and been free but decided to go back because his wife and children were in Alabama so he chose to remain a slave to be a father to his children. That is what Father’s do.

My dad when home to be with the Lord in January so this is my 1st Father’s Day without him.  Its funny how in the last few weeks I have purchase the tablecloth, looked at the flowers, selected the colors scheme for our annual Father’s Day dinner. Even thought about what I would buy him only to realize several times that he’s not on this side of Heaven anymore.  It is who he was to my siblings, his grandchildren, great grandchildren and  great great grandchildren that makes me honor him this Father’s Day although he is no longer here.  To my father Clark Woodard Happy Father’s day. 💕
