The Holy Spirit
But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:11
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you [who are willing to learn] with My eye upon you. Psalm 32:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth Acts 1:8
We all like to know where we are headed and have as much information as possible before starting the journey.
Have you ever been trailing someone to a destination that you don’t have the address to, and the person who is leading is not following helpful practices like not weaving in and out of lanes, putting your signal on early so the follower can make the adjustment, and don’t speed. Thanks to GPS, we can say go ahead, and I’ll meet you there; life is not like that all the time; we need the constant leading of the Holy Spirit.
Who is the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is a member of the Trinity. God the Father is the creator of all things, provider, protector. God the Son, our redeemer, and God the Holy Spirit the comforter, guide, the agent on the earth. He was introduced to the disciples by Jesus in John chapters 14-16, but He was there during creation Genesis1:2 and all throughout the scriptures, He dwells in the believer 1 Corinthian 3:16, Romans 5:5 says He is in our hearts.
The Gift from God
Acts 2:38 KJV: Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost
When someone gives you a gift, the natural thing to do is receive it.
We are not just temples but the very sanctuaries where the Holy Spirit resides, as 1 Corinthians 6:19 confirms. “Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own.” And since we are not our own, who better to depend on than Father God, our creator, and the agent He has assigned to help us on our life’s journey? For by [means of the personal agency of] one [Holy] Spirit we were all, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free, baptized [and] by baptism united together] into one body, and all made to drink of one [Holy] Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:13. Everyone who meets the criteria in Romans 10:9-10 and Acts 2:38 receives this precious gift, without which we can’t live a godly spirit-filled life.
How do we get acquainted with the Holy Spirit?
Getting acquainted with the Holy Spirit is not a one-time event but a continuous process for each born-again believer. It involves meditating on the Word, learning His Voice, and being willing and obedient, to name a few things. It’s about relationship, much like a wife who said, after 50+ years of marriage, is still learning and experiencing new things with her husband. The Holy Spirit is a person, too, and you can choose to ignore Him, get to the place where His voice gets dull and unrecognizable, or you can include Him in everything. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman, and He will allow both. 1 Corinthians 2:10-12 AMPC tells us, “Yet to us God has unveiled and revealed them by and through His Spirit, for the [Holy] Spirit searches diligently, exploring and examining everything, even sounding the profound and bottomless things of God [the divine counsels and things hidden and beyond man’s scrutiny].” John 14:26 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
It’s crucial to acknowledge the Holy Spirit daily, early and often, just as we greet our household family members with a good morning at first glance each day. He is our power source, the one with all the answers, who can redirect us when we get off or of danger ahead, and to look for joy in the morning. He leads us into all truth. He is such a source of peace and comfort in times of stress and the unknown because He knows it all. Don’t treat Him like we do our GPS, turning it off when we get to familiar territory, or we think we know what to do next. Always keep Him on. He can tell us to pick up batteries at the store, not knowing the power is going out later that night, or not to spend any excess money this week. He guided us to take our passports, and we figured out at the airport that we had forgotten our license but could still board the plane because we followed His leadership. He can even guide us in our relationships and personal interactions. God is concerned with every detail of our lives and has provided the ultimate helper in the Holy Spirit.
Benny Hinn’s 20-year-old book Good Morning Holy Spirit shares how the Holy Spirit changed his life forever. Grab a digital or hard copy, as it is a beautiful example of the Holy Spirit’s work in a person’s life and teaches some of the things that help us fine-tune our relationship with Him.
