Spiritual Armor – Tighten your Belt!

10 Sep Spiritual Armor – Tighten your Belt!

Spiritual Armor: Tighten your Belt!

“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.” Ephesians 6:10-14

Spiritual Warfare/Challenges in Life

Ever came out of a battle or situation and, when it was ended, said, “I am glad that is over.” Only to be dealing with something else shortly after that. The Apostle Paul teaches that this is a part of the believer’s life. The word warfare suggests the thoughts of fighting, but it also includes victory, deliverance, faith, and stability, and it is ongoing.

People are not quick to challenge a person, country, or region with good warfare skills and forces in place. Neither is the devil. But they look for opportunities, weaknesses, and times in between battles when your guard may be down. Or they feel like they have improved enough to take you out. 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be clearheaded. Keep alert. Your accuser, the devil, is on the prowl like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

The Belt/Girdle

The belt is the first piece of armor listed in the armor of spiritual warfare. It is a part of your uniform for work or spiritual warfare, meaning if you don’t have your belt on, you’re not completely dressed. It is a defensive weapon (we will discuss the other defensive weapons next week); mishaps can happen if it is not on at all or not secure because it stabilizes your clothes and is a holder for weapons for the soldier and other things in everyday life. Today I believe God is saying to tighten our spiritual belt/girdle, the belt of truth. Let’s deal with the phrase belt of truth. Read in a book that John A. MacMillan taught; this girdle of truth represents a clear understanding of God’s Word.  We do this by spending time in the Word, praying, seeking understanding from the Holy Spirit, personal devotion and fellowship time with Jesus our Lord and Savior.

This is Spiritual

Hear someone saying, Sister Theresa; I rarely wear a belt these days; that’s in the natural/physical, but honey, this is a spiritual battle that requires spiritual armor, a spiritual mindset… “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24 We sometimes have problems because we look at things from a natural standpoint and use natural solutions. In the Prophet’s Dictionary by Paula A. Price, the belt is described as “a spiritual symbol of official power, potential, and authority.” Plug into your spiritual power source.

Word from the Lord

Got this from the Lord: “As the belt holds the garment close to the body, so do I hold you close to me. I can’t put the belt on you, my child. You have to pick it up, put it on yourself, and ensure its tight. Things get loose sometimes; things get worn out from time to time. The belt of truth will not. My truth, the truth in my Word, and the ability to have yourself connected to me, it’s always there.”

Lord, fine tune/help us to get a clear working understanding of our weapons of warfare.
