Independence Day!

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17

My Independence

I remember the day I gave my life to Christ Jesus. I got off the moaner’s bench during a revival. Only 12 at the time, but I knew I needed Jesus and could not make it without Him. Salvation is a gift you receive by faith. Back then, just knowing I wasn’t going to hell was enough, but I came to find that there is so much more in this life we have in Christ Jesus. “I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him, I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” Galatians 2:20

Your independence

Reflect on your experience when you received Jesus Christ as Lord and your journey. It has been rough sometimes, but I know you have come a long way because of His love, mercy, and grace. “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Matthews 22:38-39

Our Nations Independence

Tuesday, the United States of America (USA) will celebrate its 247’s birthday, which is young for most countries worldwide. Not here to talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly we have experienced it all. Let’s remember what 1 Peter 2:16-17 says. “Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.”

The leading authority in the USA is the President. Let us include him in our prays as we celebrate this weekend and those who serve in any leadership role from local to the national level. Pray for your neighborhood, for cities across the country experiencing hardship, crime, violence, blight… Bind and loose according to Matthew 16:19, “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven” and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Let’s start calling things that were not as though they were. Become a part of the solutions. It is not all your responsibility I know, Jeremiah 29:7 says It well – “But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.”

The word independence means self-government or self-sufficiency, but we all know that we need God to survive and that we are our brother’s keeper. Spread the word of the gospel this holiday weekend, when there is an open opportunity, live it and pray for our nation.

If you are reading this post and do not know Jesus Christ repeat this prayer: Lord Jesus, I believe you are the son of God; forgive me for my sins; please come into my heart and my life. Today I receive you as my Lord and Savior.
