I’m Speaking

May 18, 2025

“I’m speaking, but many people are not listening. I’m talking, and they’re talking over me. I’m constantly saying,” Here I am! “Some people don’t even look up.”

For those of us who have children, we know very well what the Lord is saying here, as we have experienced this distracted, busy…nonresponsive behavior.  It’s not always that the person being disrespectful for it can be a combination of many things, none of which is a good excuse.   Children should not ignore their parents when speaking to them, and we absolutely should not overlook God speaking to us. Why? Because when the creator of the universe speaks, we need to listen and pay attention, and He is always talking.

Know who’s Talking

You hear three voices: yours, the Lord’s, and the devil’s, and we’ve got to know the difference between them.  Just like an adult child hearing his father’s voice in the grocery store two aisles over and knows it’s his father we have to know the voice of God beyond a shadow of a doubt. (Read 1 John 4:1-5)

The Lord speaks to us in many ways. Through the Bible, in visions, dreams, or even a pastor at a service.  At the stoplight. In a business meeting or, for example, when I was younger, He spoke to me and a friend individually. We were at this place, and we got the unction from the Lord that told us to get out and get out now.  I leaned over to my friend and said Ella, we need to get out of here, she said I heard the same thing.

God’s voice is a place of fellowship, comfort, instruction, and yes, safety, as it was for my friend and me that night.  It can be a word for many, like a word of prophecy in a meeting, or it can be specifically for you and come from someone you don’t even know. Out with friends again, and this man looks at me and says, “What is your saved, sanctified self doing up in here blowing everyone high?” Someone said Ignore him, he is drunk, but I knew God was speaking to me through him.  Hebrews 3:15 says, “As it is said, ‘Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”  .

God Speaks Through His Word!

The sixty-six books of the Bible are the very voice of God.  2 Timothy 3:16 says, All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”  Why get into the Word of God and stay in it? Psalm 119:130 says, “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple”. The Bible is the best way to learn who God is, it is the road map for life, it shows us God’s ways and statutes, how to follow them, and shares the many promises and benefits we have. Also, it helps us know and verify His voice.

What happens when we don’t stay in the Word of God? There is a place where we see the Word of God fade away from his people’s midst. In 2 Kings 22:8, the Word of God was not lost in the street or hidden in a cave; The Word was lost in the house of the Lord. Even new revelations or visions can be rare. Read 1 Samuel 3:1 AMP “Now the boy Samuel was attending to the service of the Lord under the supervision of Eli. The word of the Lord was rare and precious in those days; visions [that is, new revelations of divine truth] were not widespread.”  Then there are 400 years between the books of Malachi and Matthew. But look at this verse in  Amos 8:11-12 “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.” So, we must realize that when we are not in the Word of God as we should be, we can disconnect from God personally and nationally.

We must keep the communication between God and us open!

We don’t want to get to where we are not talking to God; when He calls, we don’t answer.  God is sovereign. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman even Jesus said I only do what I see my Father doing. John 5:19. You stop listening /talking/ answering, and you will lose touch with Him.  You won’t jump when you hear him call you in the middle of the night, or respond to a call to pray, or heed His saying wait on that purchase or make that call today not tomorrow, and church service attendance becomes a check in the box on your spiritual to-do list.

I like what Brother Kenneth Copeland says on the subject. “When you renew your mind to the truth that God is talking to you all the time and wants to guide you in every part of your life, you will begin to expect to hear His still, small voice every day. Lean in. He’s talking to you right now!”

Let’s take a Selah (pause) and pick up here next week. 💕
