Victory is Ours: Don’t Agree with Fear!
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
Our brief study today is titled “Don’t agree with fear.” There is an old saying/song, that says, “Don’t let the devil ride, because if you let him ride, he will want to drive.” 1 Peter 5:8 emphasizes this thought, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
There is nothing good about fear. Job, the greatest man in the east at the time, did. For he said. In Job 3:25 NIV, “What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me.” Fear brings torment.
Know Your Rights!
We have to know our rights and what is illegal to operate and exist in our lives.
Each position, assignment, professionally or personally, has rights. We all have rights as human beings. Depending on where you live the needs of citizens may vary. We also have rights as citizens of the Kingdom of God. When we don’t know them, we can be taken advantage of. As an employee, I remember understanding the handbook from both sides of the desk. (staff and management). We must know what can and cannot be done to us or what we can do to others. Fear is one of those things that will take you under and out if you let it.
Get the fear out!
When I was afraid as a child, I would run to my father. Whether there was a clap of thunder or a scary movie. Some animal. Or even someone or something that just looked out of place. As we get older and become adults, life brings on more challenges and situations that can cause us anxiety. I have an instructor who says, “Fear is faith in the wrong God.” We need to check and see where our faith is and our mindset too, as we are/need to constantly be renewing our minds, and if there’s some trouble there: worry, fear, doubt, and unbelief, we must work to get it out in that area.
Call on Jesus
Jesus says in John 10:10 NIV. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”
Say, No Fear Hear! See, Jesus is our savior and redeemer, friend, counselor, rear guard. He is the Son of God, which means he is Our High Priest and is not one who cannot feel sympathy for our weaknesses. On the contrary, we have a High Priest who was tempted in every way that we are, but did not sin. Hebrews 4:15. This tells me that we have a greater advocate who is beyond our earthly dad or earthly protector. We’ve got God our Heavenly Father. (If I were not saved, I’d get saved!) He’s a closer reach. He’s just a calling out to, or a prayer away and is all-powerful and watch Him answer! Psalm 56:3says, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” Read the life of King David, so many times he was faced with situations, but in those fearful situations. He said, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
Love is the Key!
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18 (NIV)
Once in a session, we were challenged to search our hearts and prophesy over someone that the Holy Spirit brought to our hearts that we had a problem with. Did not like, rubs us the wrong way, however you want to describe it, you just do not want to be bothered with them, and possibly vice versa. This assignment came after this powerful teaching on Love. Also, remembering that we have to do it from our position in Christ, as co-laborers with him. Only being encouraging and only expressing the best attributes of the person and what you believe God to Manifest in their life.
What does it have to do with fear? Fear is a blocker, and blockers can come from any angle. The enemy looks for any entry point, and if there’s a crack in your armor in the place where Love should be, he’s got the perfect avenue to work. Walk in Love.
Testimonies
Life has a way of bringing things to us that make us anxious, even when the circumstances are favorable, like moving into a new house, career changes, new business start-up, home repair projects, retirement, the birth of a child, or that child heading off to college or moving, that place of unfamiliar territory.
Then there are the not so favorable circumstances that life brings. In recent months, in our family/ministry community and beyond, we have received many challenging reports/prayer requests. From bad reports from doctors, financial needs, loss of jobs, and court cases: from tickets to legal battles around large sums of money owed. Family difficulties, criminal offenses, etc.
Sometimes, hearing those things, even if it’s not you personally, they can have a negative effect; that is when we must set our hearts/minds aright and dismantle any fear quickly and not let it set in. Let’s go back to the book of Job, verse 22:21: “Acquaint now yourself with Him [agree with God and show yourself to be conformed to His will] and be at peace; by that [you shall prosper and great] good shall come to you.” The keyword is Now!
We’ve seen victory in a lot of these situations. Healings, new jobs, apartments granted to people with little to no credit, discounted fees, promotions, career changes, and resets. (Don’t fight change, sometimes it’s letting go and moving on that allows God to have his perfect will in our lives). judgments won in court and needs met. Just know God is with us in every circumstance.
Let’s just follow the advice of Jesus in John 16:33: “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”. Victory is Ours!
