The Triumphant Entry!
“Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, ‘Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’” – Mark 11:9
The word Hosanna means praise and adoration. Hosanna in the Highest takes it to another level as it says, “SAVE US! “It’s a cry out for help.
I have always loved Palm Sunday. As a child, I loved the anticipation of spring break from school, program speeches, candy baskets, and the excellent meal my mom would prepare as we looked forward to making our entrance at church in our new outfits on Resurrection Sunday, the upcoming week. I have grown past the candy and excitement of a new outfit, but the Palm Sunday Service has always been special to me.
How many of us have passages that we read in the Bible and/or meditate on that we can actually find ourselves carried away into the essence of the words of the text? John 13:11-12 does that for me:
“The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the king of Israel!”
Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King
Jesus coming into Jerusalem during the Passover feast as king stirs me up every time, I hear the word “Hosanna” I see him coming into Jerusalem. I see people screaming, shouting for joy, praising, and waving palms. Palm branches symbolize victory (Rev 7:9). I see a celebration fit for a king, although I was born in the United States of America. We don’t have a monarchy, but as children, we grew up with fairytales of Cinderella, princes, kings, queens, and later Hallmark movies, so the sense of a king coming in had/has an understanding for me of royalty, honor, and authority.
Because of all the things that Jesus did before this, His teachings, the signs, wonders, and miracles, this triumphant entrance marked the height of His popularity. Do you know Jesus is the most talked about person who ever lived, back then and now? This entry is also important because Jesus, our Lord and Savior, was dethroning the current system. Jesus brings in the new covenant that grants us personal access to God himself: Hosanna Hosanna, glory in the Highest!
The Son of God appeared to destroy the works of the devil.
Redemption of mankind was not an afterthought on the part of God the Father. In Romans 8:38-39, NIV explains, “Our sin separated us from God, but He had a plan to get us back: Jesus. Jesus’ death was the exchange for our new life with God. With Christ in our hearts, we are able to fellowship with God unceasingly and have the privilege to walk side by side with Him even on this side of heaven.”
Remember you must accept Jesus as Lord to walk side by side with Him
Remember you must accept Jesus as Lord to walk side by side with Him. Yes, as a child or adult, we could tell you the story of Palm Sunday, Holy Week and What Resurrection Sunday means through our speeches and church attendance. But until we confess with our mouths the Lord Jesus and believe in our hearts that God has raised Him from the dead, (Romans 10:9) we are not saved and miss the blessing of having a relationship with God and the benefits such as eternal life, joy unspeakable, the peace that surpasses understanding from the Holy Spirit, guilt-free living, and unconditional love to name a few. So, If I was not saved, I would get saved and make my triumphant entry next Sunday with the rest of us children of the Most High God. Happy Palm Sunday! 💕
