It’s Almost Midnight

Psalm 119:62-65

62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.

63 I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts.

64 The earth, O Lord, is full of thy mercy: teach me thy statutes.

65 Thou hast dealt well with thy servant, O Lord, according unto thy word.

Today is December 31. Before the day ends, take time to Reflect, Repent, and Rejoice. If you are like me, this year has moved quickly. I have experienced/learned a lot. There have been ups and downs, but I have sensed the presence of the Lord through it all, not just physically but as a shelter, guide, comforter, and friend. Psalm 23, 91, 18, 25, and I, John, have been constants this year, along with many other passages, teachings, and personal daily confessions.

Reflect & Identify

Let’s think quietly and calmly about this past year, the achievements, what we’ve learned, and how we’ve come to this day, the last day of the year, by the mercy of God. Some of us have experienced significant losses and victories. Reflect on how God helped you achieve the victories. also, ask Him how the enemy got into a certain situation and what is needed to avoid that snare(s). Remembering what Drs Jerry and Carol Roberson said about spiritual warfare. “Paul tells us that we are the determining factor in whether the devil can operate in our lives.” Cover yourself with the blood of Jesus now and everything that concerns you and bind and loose, too.  Think of the goodness of the Lord Jesus in both scenarios.  We are still here.

Repent, Recommit & Spread the Word

Ask the Holy Spirit if there is anything that you need to repent about; we’ve all missed it here and there throughout this year.  Remember what Lamentations 3:22-23 saysIt is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Let’s recommit to the area where we need to: at home, on the job, with loved ones, and spread the word of the goodness of Jesus and how it is available to everyone who accepts Him as Lord.  You can do this by sharing your personal testimony, invite someone to join you in person tonight at your church service at your home or send them the link to view it online.  My cousin told me on Sunday how her phone pocket called someone while she was at church, and they called and said they listened to the entire service and how the Word of the Lord blessed them.   The Lord works in mysterious ways Isaiah 55:8-9

Rejoice and Praise God!

The Word of God teaches itself!  Philippians 4:4-8 saysRejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

So, deliberately take some time on this last day of the year.  This is our personal “Watch Meeting.” I love history, and during slavery, “[The plantation owner] would not permit them to hold religious meetings or any other kinds of meetings, but they frequently met in secret to conduct religious services.”  [National Museum of African History and Culture – The legacy of Watch Night service.].

We don’t have those restraints in America anymore, so go for it! and do as the psalmist did our opening scripture in Psalms 119, express gratitude for God and all he’s done for us and brought us through in this past year and rejoice in the Lord again and again and again. Happy New Year, everyone! 💕
