Salt and Light
Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage. Matthews 5:13-14 MSG
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
Twice this past week I cooked chicken for dinner, baked one evening and fried it on Saturday. Used this all-in-one Spicy Cajun seasoning, knowing that most store versions of Cajun seasoning have added salt and can be a bit salty. The baked chicken looked great but was bland to the taste, so I just added some barbecue sauce to boast the flavor. Used that same Spicy Cajun seasoning on Saturday, added pepper and a little salt but guess what the same thing, looking good but bland so much for the star seasoning that should have added a kick and zest to those chicken wings.
We as the salt and light of the earth are to make a difference!
- We are influencer – Matthew 5:14-16
- We are the standard – I Peter 2:9
- We are to add the total kingdom of God flavor to this world. – Galatians 5:22-23
- We don’t compromise – Matthew 22:37-39, Romans 12:1-2
- We preserve – Matthew 5:13
- We are supposed to bring God’s presence when we walk in a room and dictate the atmosphere in the earth – I John 4:4, Acts 1:8,
- We are the example, the blood bought redeemed – I Corinthians11:1, Ephesians 1:7
But if we are like the Spicy Cajun seasoning on my shelf that was nowhere near the expiration date but not effective no matter how I used it, we miss-represent God and are useless and ready for the trash as the Word of God says. God needs our light and the special godly flavor we bring to those around us.
Look at it this way. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10. We are Salt and Light!
