Don’t Play with Fire!

Don’t Play with Fire!

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. Galatian 5:16-17

We are still focusing on keeping our position of standing. Last week we were standing for our families in the secret place of the Most High God (Psalm 91) and today we will look at standing in our freedom in Christ.

Our lesson for today comes from the book of Galatians written by the Apostle Paul. He writes this letter to discuss Christian liberty and to show us that this liberty is not a license to sin. Also, salvation is by grace through faith apart from works of the law. (Wilmington Bible Handbook)

John 10:10 says “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”

The thief comes to steal your walk with God, your faith in God. To refute what God says in His Word and to you. The devil does not outright say it or do things openly, he subtly slips things in from time to time. Like gossip you do not call and say let’s talk about Jim or Sally the enemy will suggest something about them maybe even good then it works its way to gossip. Or the old way he gets saints sometimes “Girl we got to pray for Shirley, Larry just left her. Girl what happen” and never getting around to praying. Or that spirit of bitterness that creeps in stays very quiet and takes up residence. Bitterness is unsettled anger from past experiences forgive and let it go.

The Works of the Flesh have listed in Galatians 5:19-21 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

These things can be avoided by staying with Jesus Christ our first love, walking, and living a spirit lead life. Verses 22-26 list the fruit of this walk. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking, and envying each other.

The Apostle Paul starts Galatians chapter 5 off with the words “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” Let us not go back into the bondage or engage in things we have been delivered from or we know are not right. Don’t play with fire, you will get burned. 💕
