Keep your Words to Yourself – Part II

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.  Psalms 19:14

Last week we started the series The power of keeping your words to yourself with a focus of being a good listener.  Today we want to go a little further by discussing the words that come out of our mouths.  Still working with James 1:19 AMP that says “Understand this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Let everyone be quick to hear [be a careful, thoughtful listener], slow to speak [a speaker of carefully chosen words and], slow to anger [patient, reflective, forgiving]. James 1:19 AMP

Words frame our world God created the world we live in with words check out the opening chapters of the book of Genesis.  Jesus said this about what we say,For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, “Be removed and be cast into the sea,” and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” Mark 11:23

Elijah said it would not rain but according to his word and it did not rain for 3 years and six months 1 King 17:1. David told Goliath “This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand;” and it happened just as he said. 1 Samuel 17:46.

See our words should be as our opening scripture says carefully chosen. Words are powerful we can use them effectively or misuse them. We decide. Job 22:28 AMPC says “You shall also decide and decree a thing, and it shall be established for you; and the light [of God’s favor] shall shine upon your ways.”

The following scriptures are just a few that will help to remind us how powerful our words are:

Proverbs 18:21 NIV “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Proverbs 13:3; “Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.”

Ephesians 4:29; “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”

Proverbs 18:19; “A brother who has been insulted is harder to win back than a walled city, and arguments separate people like the barred gates of a palace.”

1 Peter 3:10 NLT “If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies.”

Colossians 4:6, NASB: “Your speech must always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.”

This week let us focus/pay attention to our words, think before we speak, make sure they reflect the results we desire and line up with the Word of God.  For example, if you keep saying I will never get out of debt … then you know what you probably never will. If it sounds like your words have fear, defeat, negativity … in them, then change what you are saying.  Finally remember that Wise words bring many benefits. Proverbs. 12:14 NLT💕
